India will have a massive contingent of 18 players at the event and all eyes will certainly be on the country’s top-ranked player, Saina Nehwal, who, in the course of the next 6 days will look to add a World Championships medal to her already growing cabinet.
Apart from Saina, P V Sindhu will also be a contender for a podium finish, provided she shakes off her poor form and raises her game to the occasion. In the Men’s Singles, it will be Parupalli Kashyap, who despite bein World No.10 will be a bigger contender for a medal due to the inconsistent form of World No.3 Kidambi Srikanth.
In the doubles, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will look to carry their good form from their Canadian Open victory while Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy will look to go that one step forward and win their maiden World Championship medal.
Among others, who will feature in the competition will be the mixed doubles of Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan, who will look to make an impression on the big stage, while the other Women’s doubles pair of Tarun Kona and Sikki Reddy and the Men’s doubles pair of Akshay Dewalkar and Pranav Jerry Chopra will also look to move into the business end of the tournament.
